A quick commerce complaint is different from an ordinary shopping complaint. The order is small, it arrives in minutes, and the problem is often obvious: a missing item, the wrong product, something close to its expiry date or already past it, or a refund that is slow. Blinkit, Zepto, BigBasket, Instamart and others handle most issues in the app. When they do not, you have a clear way to escalate.

Common problems

  • items missing from the bag,
  • the wrong item, or a damaged or spoiled one,
  • a product that is expired or very close to expiry,
  • a price above the MRP printed on the pack,
  • a delivery far later than promised,
  • a refund that is slow, or offered only as wallet credit when you wanted it to your payment method.

Step 1: record the problem the moment it arrives

Before you throw anything away, take clear photos or a short video. Show the bag, the item, the expiry date and MRP on the pack, and the order in your app. Then raise it in the app straight away. Quick commerce issues are easiest to prove on the day.

Step 2: complain in the app and get it in writing

Use the order's help section and describe the problem briefly. Ask for the refund to your original payment method if that is what you want, and save the reply. If the chat ends without a result, ask for a ticket number.

Step 3: write to the grievance officer

Every e-commerce entity must have a grievance officer. Under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, the officer must acknowledge your complaint within 48 hours and redress it within one month. Look in the app's legal or policy pages for the officer's contact. Send the order number, the problem, the amount, your photos and the relief you want.

If the grievance officer does not solve it, send a notice. It is a short letter that states the facts, the amount, what you want and a deadline, usually 15 days. It tells the company that you will go to the Consumer Commission, and it often gets a different team's attention.

Jagrik AI makes this simple. You describe what happened in a chat, upload your photos and invoice, and Jagrik drafts the notice. With your approval, it emails the notice to the company's grievance contact and keeps track of whether it was delivered. You can then see when the notice period has run out.

You can also write the notice yourself. Use a clear structure: your details, the order details, the problem, the demand, the deadline and a list of attachments. Our consumer complaint letter guide has a format.

Step 5: the National Consumer Helpline

If the company still does not resolve it, you can register a complaint with the National Consumer Helpline, by calling 1915 or at consumerhelpline.gov.in. It forwards complaints to companies, many of which have partnered with it to respond directly. You register this yourself. Jagrik AI does not file on the helpline for you.

Step 6: file on the e-Jagriti portal

If nothing works, file a consumer complaint. Jagrik AI prepares your complaint documents from your chat, and the Chrome or Firefox extension fills the e-Jagriti portal form, so you do not retype everything. You check it and press the final submit yourself. See e-Daakhil to e-Jagriti if you are new to the portal.

You can file in the District Commission where you live, under Section 34(2)(d). Complaints up to ₹5 lakh carry no filing fee. See consumer court fees. The time limit is two years under Section 69. See the consumer complaint time limit guide.

Is it worth it for a small order?

Be realistic. Many small refunds are settled at the notice stage. A formal complaint takes time. It makes most sense for a repeated problem, an expired food item that could harm someone, or an overcharge. Commissions have treated selling a packaged item above its MRP as an unfair trade practice and ordered refund of the excess with compensation, as in one Thrissur order, but each result depends on the facts.

What the regulator has been looking at

The Central Consumer Protection Authority has asked quick commerce companies to give proof for their "10 minute delivery" claims. That does not change your rights on an order, but it shows these companies are under scrutiny.

A quick commerce complaint is easiest to win when you photograph the problem on the day and put your demand in writing.

Yes. Send it to the company's grievance officer and keep proof that you sent it. Jagrik AI can draft it and email it with your approval.
